Life after Captain Phil Harris
Deadliest Catch Season 7 premieres tonight at 9|8c on Discovery Channel.
The new season of Deadliest Catch launches tonight, but with the death of Captain Phil Harris, how will his sons cope? Harris passed away on national television last season (season 6), leaving behind a crew of people and a cast who cared deeply for him.
The creator of the program, Thom Beers, has commented on Captain Phil Harris’ passing, and when asked by the Wall Street Journal if the death will play a prominent role in Deadliest Catch season 7, Beers mainly focused on how Harris’ passing has had an impact on his sons. According to Beers, “You have two sons trying to make a go on the Cornelia Marie, on their father’s boat. So that storyline continues and it ain’t pretty, believe me.”
Captain Phil Harris’ death has understandably impacted the boys in a big way. Beers explains that “The boys are trying to do the right thing, they are trying to fill the big footsteps of their dad and it’s really tough when you are on the boat but you are not the captain.”
Controversy will surely ensue this season of Deadliest Catch, and the circumstances are very sad indeed. Hopefully Captain Phil Harris’ sons will be able to use their father’s memory as an inspiration, and use that energy to do big things.
