hines ward dwtsDancing with the Stars contestants prepare for week 4.

There might not be two more different people on Dancing with the Stars than Kirstie Alley and Hines Ward. One is an athlete who is in world class shape and the other is an actor who has struggled with her weight and conditioning. Yet both have continued to score well and have impressed the judges.

Kirstie Alley’s DWTS experience started off with a bang. She shocked everyone the first week by getting the second highest score of the week. This led to a war of words with George Lopez.  Even with the controversy Kirstie performed well in week two. Last week her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy suffered an injury during their dance that caused them to both tumble to the ground. They got up, picked up where they left off and finished strong. I was critical of how Kirstie handled the situation afterwards when her partner was clearly in serious pain and she was laughing and mugging for the camera. She also went out and got a tattoo commemorating the event. Seems a little over the top, but supposedly Maks is fine and all is well between them.

Hines Ward, on the other hand, has been good right from the start. The first week he had a score that put him near the top of the pack. In weeks 2 and 3 he has tied for the top spot on the Dancing with the Stars scoreboard. Hines has turned out to be a fun loving, easy to smile guy who seems to really be having a great time dancing. The judges love him, the crowd loves him and football players have a large built in fan base so you know he is getting a lot of votes. Baring a serious mistake or injury I would expect Hines to be around at the end and challenge for the championship.

Kirstie Alley and Hines Ward represent two opposite ends of the DWTS spectrum, but both are having success on their terms. It goes to show there is more than one way to do well in this competition. Tune in tonight at 8PM on ABC to find out if these two can keep the good performances rolling and to see if Maks is really okay.
