arthurSoul Surfer takes on Arthur and Your Highness at the box office this weekend.

Three major motion pictures (Arthur, Soul Surfer, Your Highness) are being released at the box office this weekend.  Who will come out on top? Take a peek at the movies below and decide which one you’ll go see.

Arthur – starring Russell Brand and Jennifer Garner.  This remake of the classic movie starring Dudley Moore and Liza Manelli from 1981 is being released nationwide Friday, April 8, 2011.  Will the remake live up to the original?  Those are big shoes to fill.  The premise of the movie is a wealthy playboy stands to lose his wealthy inheritance when he falls in love with a woman his family doesn’t approve of.  Arthur is portrayed by comedian Russell Brand.  Love interest Susan is played by Jennifer Garner, and the lovable roll of Arthur’s best friend Hobson is portrayed by Helen Mirren.  Expect some new dialogue, but the same idea of the original movie.  I give it 3.5 stars out of 5.

Soul Surfer – based on the true store of a teenage girl surfer who loses an arm in a shark attack.  She gathers up the courage to go back into the ocean after her traumatic experience.  While heartwarming and an amazing story, this will not do excellent against the comedies coming out this weekend.  This is a movie I would like to see, but will probably wait for it to come out on DVD.  Soul Sufer stars: Anna Sophia Robb, Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt and Carrie Underwood.  I give it 2 out of 5 stars.

Your HighnessDanny McBride and James Franco reunite in this comedy set in medieval times.  These two appeared together in the similar themed movie, “Pineapple Express.”  They were hilarious in that movie, and I have high (no pun intended) expectations for them in this movie.  After making some intense films lately, Natalie Portman also stars in this film about a prince’s bride is kidnapped, he goes on an adventure to save her along with his lazy brother.  Danny McBride is one of the writers, so I’m expecting a lot of laughs.  I’m giving this one 4 out of 5 stars.

My pick for winner at the weekend box office?  Your Highness.  We’ll have to wait and see just who brought in the most bucks.
