Casey Abrams & Scotty McCreery Rock Idol!
Casey Abrams and Scotty McCreery rocked American Idol last night.
Last night on American Idol it was Rock and Roll Hall of Fame week which left the contestants like Casey Abrams and Scotty McCreery a wide range of songs to choose from. It was an interesting night in that nobody was horrible, but there were some performances that stand out as being better than the others. Here are this week’s American Idol winners.
Casey Abrams says he now feel like he has to give 150% every performance in order to make the judges proud after they used the season’s only save to keep him from getting voted off a few weeks back. This week he delivered what was probably the best performance of the week. He broke out the upright base and accompanied by just a mandolin he turned out a jazzy, quiet version of Credence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.” It was calm, powerful one of his best performances of the 2011 American Idol season.
Scotty McCreery once again showed why he is a favorite to win this competition. Throughout the season he has talked about his love for Elvis and how he worshipped him as a kid. Last night he finally got to pay tribute to his idol when he did “That’s All Right, Mama.” It was fun and Jennifer Lopez even said that the country boy threw a little hip hop flavor into his moves. He even had a couple of girls rush the stage for a hug at the end of it. Scotty had a good time with The King and the audience did to. It was just enough rock and just enough twang to set him apart as a guy who seems like he can do just about anything and put his stamp on it.
The last winner of the week is an unlikely one for me. Haley Reinhart. While she wasn’t spectacular and there is no guarantee that she won’t end up in the bottom three, but she finally gave the judges what they have wanted this entire season. All season long the judges have talked about how she reminds them of Janice Joplin so she did Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart.” Her performance had its moment and she has a hot little growl in her when she gets going, but it did show that the judges are wrong. She is not Joplin. Still, it was gutsy to try it and she did a decent job.
These are my three American Idol winners (Scotty McCreery, Haley Reinhart, Casey Abrams) for the week. Now that we are down to nine I guess it is safe to say that nobody is truly safe so tune in tonight at 8PM on FOX to see the results show live and find out who stays and who goes.
