American Idol 2011: Jacob Lusk, Paul McDonald Voted Off?
Will Jacob Lusk or Paul McDonald be sent home tonight?
As there are every week on American Idol 2011 this week during Rock and Roll Hall of Fame week there were some winners and losers. Some performers stood out while others failed to impress. Here are my picks for the three worst of the week (Jacob Lusk, Stefano Langone, Paul McDonald).
I have to start with Jacob Lusk. During the tape segment it showed him doing a version of Marvin Gaye’s classic “Let’s Get It On” and he seemed to be killing it. He then said he decided not to do that song because it is too explicit and it is a song about just having sex which goes against his beliefs. No problem. His second choice? “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson. So he isn’t okay with singing a song about getting it on, but has no problem singing a song by a guy who was accused more than once of being a pedophile? Interesting. Then before taking the American Idol stage he said to the camera that if he ended up getting voted out it wasn’t his fault, but it would be because America hadn’t look at themselves in mirror. His arrogance aside, the performances was average at best and included a duet during the chorus with Siedah Garrett who co-wrote the song. During the duet he did several deep hip thrusts into her. Again, he doesn’t want to sing about getting it on, but is basically dry humping his singing partner. It was all creepy and weird. Jacob Lusk has always given me a strange feeling and after this week I know why.
Stefano Langone chose to do “When a Man Loves a Woman” and it was a hot mess right from the first note. He was wearing all black which with the low light and dark stage made it look like he was just a free floating head during the first part of the song. As is normal, it was just too much song for him. When it came to the judges Randy Jackson had legit criticism, Steven Tyler said he liked the passion and as per normal Jennifer Lopez heaped the love on him. She so badly wants to see him naked that she might as well just come out and say it.
My third choice for this week’s losers is Paul McDonald. His performance of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” on American Idol last night was spastic, over the top and just too happy. He knows what the song is about right? His unique voice, for me, just didn’t have the timber to hold up to the song. As it was said during the rehearsals by Jimmy Iovine “Johnny Cash is the coolest.” Those are some serious boots to fill. Bono once said “Every man knows he is a sissy compared to Johnny Cash.” Paul should have heeded Bono’s words and steered clear of this one because in the end he just got swallowed up by it. With his goofy grin and upbeat tempo do we really believe Paul shot a man in Reno just to watch him die? No, we don’t.
These three represent my three losers (Paul McDonald, Jacob Lusk, Stefano Langone) for this week on American Idol. You can tune in tonight live at 8PM on FOX to see if any of these three ends up getting voted out.
