American Idol 2011 Recap – My Performance Ratings!

american idolRecap of last night’s rock n roll hall of fame performances on American Idol.

The American Idol 2011 Top 9 performed songs from the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame with a little help from Gwen Stefani and Wil. i. am.  The two stars mentored the Top 9 and here is a recap of how it went down last night.

Jacob Lusk – sang “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson. This soulful singer ditched Marvin Gaye’s Lets Get It On at the last minute and chose this song instead.  The American Idol judges liked his performance and didn’t have any criticism to offer.

Haley Reinhart – sang “Piece of My Heart” by Janis Joplin.  I love this song and thinks it’s very hard to pull off, given the talent and uniqueness of Janis Joplin herself.  The judges liked her performance and feel this is the Haley they first saw and fell in love with.

Casey Abrams – sang “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) – never liked this band, or this song.  But when Casey spun it his style, bringing out the stand up bass – made me enjoy the rendition.  You all know I love this guy. He’s got so much talent.  The American Idol judges loved it as well and said they would pay to see him in concert.  A true musician.

Lauren Alaina – sang “Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin.  The judges like her performance and Randy Jackson thought she did a good job with a difficult song.  Not to take away from her talent, this girl doesn’t do much for me.  I think there are a few others in the competition that have that little bit of edge over her.

James Durbin – sang “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” by George Harrison.  Love this song, love this guy.  He could have went with a safe heavier rock song, but I think he made the right choice.  It showed a different side to him, and the judges not only liked it, but they appreciated seeing him take chances as well.  His vocals were fabulous. Love his guy too.

Scotty McCreery – sang “That’s All Right Mama” by Elvis Presley.  Wow, so many songs that I absolutely love were performed last night.  Scotty picked the right song, showed off his skills and made the judges enjoy his performance.  You can tell this kid wants to win American Idol.

Pia Toscano – sang “River Deep, Mountain High” by Tina Turner. So glad she finally picked an up-tempo song.  Her vocals are solid and strong.  She was told by the judges to work on her movements.  She has the talent, but doesn’t seem to have the “it” in her to want to win this whole thing.  She needs to step it up a bit before she gets voted off.

Stefano Langone – sang “When A Man Loves A Woman” by Percey Sledge/Michael Bolton.  Yawn.  Jennifer and Steven liked it and felt his passion, but Randy was not convinced.  I’m going with Randy on this one.  This guy can’t be hanging around too much longer.  Again, he has the talent, but is boring and gets lost in the crowd.  No pizzazz, nothing that makes him stand out.

Paul McDonald – sang “Prison Blues” by Johnny Cash.  Love this guy.  Love his voice.  He’ll be successful no matter what.  He did a great job with the song and the American Idol judges absolutely loved it.
