American Idol 2011: Lauren Alaina, Paul McDonald!
Will Paul McDonald and Lauren Alaina make the most of tonight’s theme on American Idol?
When I heard that tonight was Rock and Roll Hall of Fame night on American idol there were two contestants that jumped into my mind as having the potential to have an amazing night. Those two are Lauren Alaina and Paul McDonald.
Paul McDonald flirted with disaster recently by finding himself in the bottom three, but he should be able to shrug that off and put together a strong performance. His interesting, raspy voice is just crying out for him to do a song by Rod Stewart, but I don’t think he will. He seems to like to take chances so this week I would love to see him do something a little different. Maybe REM’s “Everybody Hurts” or “Losing My Religion.” Those would not be easy songs to sing, but I think he is up for the challenge.
Lauren Alaina seems to be breezing through the competition. She has had no real problems and is continuing to grow and get better during the American Idol competition. When you watch her sing you forget that she is just 16 years old. Her country-twanged voice is perfect for this week. I would love to see her really do something different. Something nobody would expect. She should take the stage and do a Prince song. “Purple Rain” or “When Doves Cry” would be interesting. Hearing her flip them and make them an alt. country style song could be a lot of fun.
We will have to tune in tonight at 8PM on FOX to see how this all shakes down and find out exactly who sings what, who sinks and who swims on American Idol.
