The Top 9 American Idol 2011 performers will perform songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Legendary rock guitarist, Jeff Beck, will accompany the contestants [editors note: Beck cancelled] along with Ray Chew and the American Idol band.

Last week, Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo were eliminated from the competition.  I don’t think Naima has a huge fan base.  Personally, I didn’t care for her signing or performances too much.  Thia, that child can sing.  However, she definitely showed her age during the competition.  She needs the time to mature and be able to hang in there. She should have gone away from the ballads and let loose a little bit.  If so, she may not have left the competition this soon.

Last week, Scotty McCreery did a duet with Lauren Alaina.  It’s been said that Scotty is the front runner for the 2011 American Idol competition.  I’m not so sure about that.  Not to say he is not good. As I have mentioned before, he could totally walk away from this right now and be signed and successful.  Lauren may be lagging in the popularity vote.  She’s cute, she seems sweet, and has a good voice.  Quite frankly, I’m shocked Haley Reinhart is still in it.

The Top 9 performers for tonight’s American Idol are Casey Abrams (my fave), Lauren Alaina, James Durbin (who will kill this week), Stefano Langone, Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery, Paul McDonald, Haley Reinhart and Pia Toscano.  I’m guessing James loves this week’s song selection.  This is right up his alley.  How will ballad loving Stefano do?
