Having already released the first single “Mine” off her upcoming  “Speak Now” album, Taylor Swift premiered a brand new single, “Innocent,” last night on the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.

For Taylor Swift, ever since the Kanye West debacle at last years VMA’s her career has been stronger than ever. Coming off of a stellar summer tour, which had Swift among the top grossing acts on the road, Swift also released her first single “Mine” off of her upcoming “Speak Now” album.

Last night at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, controversy was on everyone’s minds as both Taylor Swift and Kanye West were scheduled to perform.  In a last minute change, Taylor Swift said she would be debuting a brand new single. It was so under wraps that she only hummed it during rehearsal, as to not give away too much of the song.

As the moment arrived at last nights 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift took the stage. The performance began with a flashback of Kanye West storming the stage during Taylor Swift’s VMA acceptance speech.

Onward with the performance of Taylor Swift’s brand new single “Innocent.” If you were to listen to the lyrics as Swift performed, it was clear that it was directed towards Kanye West. The line that slapped you right in the face was: “it’s ok, life is a tough crowd, 32 and still growing up now, who you are is not what you did, you’re still an ‘innocent’.”

Taylor Swift performing her brand new single “Innocent,” which is directed towards Kanye West is as far as the controversy surrounding the two artists went.  Kanye did perform some crap where he yelled something about douchebags, but Taylor Swift definitely came out as the more mature human being last night. While her new single “Innocent” was directed as Kanye, she took a more subtle approach and left us with a sense that she actually felt sorry for Kanye.

“Innocent” is the 2nd single off Taylor Swift’s brand new “Speak Now” album which is set to hit stores on October 25th.
