American Idol 2011: Naima Adedapo, Stefano Langone Voted Off?

american idol resultsStefano Langone and Naima Adedapo should be voted off tonight on American Idol 2011.

It was Elton John week on American Idol 2011 which means that there were bound to be contestants who decided to tackle some of Elton’s iconic songs only to screw them up badly. Here is my list of the three worst performances of the week. (Stefano Langone, Naima Adedapo, Paul McDonald)

Sefano Langone did “Tiny Dancer” which, to me, falls in that category of iconic songs and he simply doesn’t have the chops to pull it off. He tried and you can tell he is working on doing the things the American Idol judges want him to do, but to me he just lacks soul. He is not believable when he sings and all the pageantry and performance in the world doesn’t make it seem like he believes it. His songs always come off as a karaoke version of the song.

It was another week and another strange version of a song by Naima Adedapo. I give her credit for being fearless, but her reggae version of “I’m Still Standing” was odd and just didn’t work last night on American Idol. Not to mention that she isn’t a reggae singer. Last week she was an African singer and the week before that she was a hippy. I understand she is trying to show us that she can do anything and is a chameleon, but that this stage of the competition it is about finding out who you are and how you connect with the audience and she doesn’t seem to understand that. Who she may be aside, the song ultimately just didn’t work.

This last spot was a toss-up for me and I know some won’t agree but for me the other loser of the week was Paul McDonald and his version of “Rocket Man.” His voice is so distinct that he really needs to pick the right song to sing on American Idol. It seems like he doesn’t have a lot of power in his voice so when he has to go into the high notes or the bigger, more powerful parts of the song he gets lost in them. When he is quiet and singing more softly in his natural key he is great, but for me his version of this song just didn’t pan out.

So there you have it, my picks for the three least impressive performances on American Idol this week. I have no doubt that at least one of these people [Stefano Langone] will be in the bottom three tonight and maybe more. Tune in tonight at 8PM of FOX to see the elimination and find out which two singers get sent home.
