2010 2010 MTV Video Music Awards: Best Pop Video Long Shot is B.O.B. for Nothin on You
The odds makers have spoken and the artist with the least chance to winning the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards for Best Pop Video is B.O.B (featuring Bruno Mars) for Nothin’ on You. If he managed to beat both Lady Gaga and Katy Perry in this category it would have to go down as the upset of the night.

B.O.B’s star is on the rise. He has a crisp, clean delivery and writes interesting, if not literate, lyrics. Unlike a lot of rappers he isn’t afraid to dream and be vulnerable in his songs. Nothin’ on You is a prime example of that. In the song he reminiscences about the one that got away. He admits that he had some times in his life when he chased skirts and womanized. He also admits that this was a mistake. Highlighted with Bruno Mar’s soulful hook, the song is a love letter to love lost. The video is simple, but fun and interesting to watch, but it doesn’t compare to the favorites in this category.
Katy Perry‘s homage to Candyland, California Gurls, is packed with color, sex appeal and fun. Lady Gaga‘s Bad Romance is a whirlwind of wild fashion and detail that must be seen more than once to full appreciate. These two videos really show off the art form for what it really can be when technical and artistic tools are put together and used to their fullest.
B.O.B has a bright future ahead of him and he has nothing to be ashamed of with this video and song, but there is a reason he is a long shot. His video is a minor league batter just called up to the big leagues and is starting in the World Series. Maybe he could get lucky, but if I were him I would worry more about which after party to hit than what he will say for his acceptance speech.
