MTV Video Music Awards: Best Pop Video Odds on Favorite, Lady Gaga
One of the most competitive categories at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards is going to be Best Pop Video. Lady Gaga is the odds on favorite to win the award for Bad Romance, but Katy Perry is a not too distant second and she just might steal this one.

Lady Gaga is up for a total of 13 awards, a new record for number of nominations in one year. The previous record was held by Miss Elliot with 11. Whenever an artist has a huge number of nominations it seems like the awards show ends up going one of two ways. Either they end up sweeping all categories and win everything they are nominated for, or they end up winning the major categories and other nominees win some of the smaller categories. In an awards show like the VMA‘s it is more likely that some of the smaller categories will go to someone other than Gaga simply because the producers at MTV want to make as many fans and artists happy as they can. Never mind that MTV always seems to like stirring up a little controversy to keep people talking about the show.
So while it is a long shot that anyone other that Lady Gaga or Katy Perry will win a VMA for Best Pop Video, it is not out of the realm of possibility that Perry could sneak in and take this one. Her video for California Gurls is fun, imaginative and sexy. It doesn’t hurt that the song itself was unavoidable and was one of the anthems of the summer.
While the odds still heavily favor Lady Gaga to walk away with the award for Best Pop Video, don’t write Katy Perry off, she just might surprise some people and steal this category.
