In most seasons, training camp in New England is business as usual. They stay quiet about the team, comment only when they have to and use the time to come together and put their best foot forward. That hasn’t been the case this year for Brady’s New England Patriots.

Tom Brady’s accident was just the newest in a list of problems with the team. Yes, he was unhurt and the reports are that the accident was very minor, but you can’t help but to wonder. There is the question of Tom Brady‘s contract. He is in the last year of his contract and wants an extension. The season starts for the NFL tonight and for the Patriots on Sunday, but still there is no extension and rumors have it that there very well may not be one in place before the season starts.

Add into this Wes Welker’s injury and surgery. He says he is nowhere near 100%. Without Welker to run the slot it leaves teams free to double Moss. Speaking of Moss, he said publicly that he feels he is no longer wanted in New England. Like Brady, Moss is in the last year of his contract and he feels that the team has showed no interest in keeping him past this year.

In the past the New England Patriots have had the ability to jettison players and continue to compete at a very high level. Maybe doing so has finally caught up with them. With key injuries on defense, Tom Brady unhappy, Wes Welker hurt and Randy Moss unhappy, this could spell trouble for the team that may lack depth at certain positions. Add into the equation that the New York Jets are now good and Miami Dolphins are improved and the Patriots find themselves in a division that is no longer a gimme.

Tom Brady’s car wreck this morning may have been minor, but it may be symbolic of what could happen this season to a team that has dominated its division for several years.
