Chris Colfer and Darren Criss Mock Christians!
Chris Colfer’s gay kiss on Glee has struck a nerve with Victoria Jackson.
Glee-ks around the world jumped for joy, squealed and screamed with excitement last week when Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) finally kissed on the most recent new episode of Glee Season 2. But everyone wasn’t happy. Leading the charge of anger against the show is former Saturday Night Live comedienne Victoria Jackson who has reinvented herself as a hyper-conservative blogger. In her most recent post she claims that liberals, like Muslims and Communists want to destroy America. She then went after Glee for the gay kiss accusing the show of shoving the gay agenda down our throats and mocking Christians. She accuses the show of one-way tolerances while using her entire article to show that she is pretty much intolerant of anyone who doesn’t feel the same way she does.
It would be funny if Victoria Jackson were doing it as an SNL skit where she lampooned hyper-conservative pundits, but that she believes it is kind of scary.
Glee is not a show without its controversies and its producers are not to go without some criticism for their actions. Most of that criticism comes from how they treat musical acts who choose not to allow the show to use their music, but also the show knowingly pushes the envelope and sometimes doesn’t own up to its own actions. But are Glee and its guy on guy (Chris Colfer, Darren Criss) kiss trying to destroy America? No. That is ridiculous and Victoria Jackson (as well as her counterparts like Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity) knows it. But saying something outrageous gets them press and affords them an audience which helps them make money. These hyper-conservatives like to play a game where they try to one-up each other to see who can make the most outrageous statement. Jackson is now officially playing the game. In reality these pundits really don’t want to world to be as they claim it should be because then they would have nothing to complain about and the gravy train of cash that they bleed from their listeners and readers would dry up. The reality is, they were just as excited about the Glee Season 2 gay kiss as Gleeks were, just for a whole different set of reasons.
There is a simple solution to the problem. You can always turn the channel. It isn’t like a person could have been watching Glee all along and not realized that it was gay friendly or not seen that a same sex kiss of some sort was eventually going to happen. The only people shocked by the kiss were people who don’t follow the show. I don’t watch the show and I knew it was coming. Perhaps my knowledge that eventually Glee would air a gay kiss and my willingness to stand by and do nothing to stop it has weakened the country. Or maybe I was busy watching hockey and don’t really give a damn and everything will be fine. There are more than 300 million Americans in this country. About 10 million or 3% of them tune in to watch Glee Season 2 on any given week. Somehow I don’t think that 3% is going to rise up, carry out a coupe, seize control of the country and force us all to have gay sex. Personally, I am more worried that eventually Victoria Jackson and the people who believe the bile she and her ilk spill will be the ones to seize power and force that garbage down our throats.
I’m neither a liberal nor a conservative. I’m an independent whose life is no different today in the post-Glee gay kiss world than it was before. Somehow through all of this I think the Glee producers are at their all-time happiest right now because between the gay kiss, Dave Grohl bashing them and Gwyneth Paltrow appearing on their show, they have a lot of people talking about them.
