Best and Worst Women Last Night’s American Idol
American Idol took to the airwaves last night with its first live performances of the year. Up until now everything on American Idol had been taped in advance so last night the song choices were a surprise as were some of the performances. There were some clear cut winners and losers among the ladies last night.
American Idol’s Best Women:
For me the clear winner of the night was Pia Toscano. She wasn’t just the best girl; she was the best singer of the night. Her version of Whitney Houston’s “Where Do Broken Hearts Go?” was an up-tempo change for her and still allowed her to hit the high notes. While most of the rest of the contestants seem to be working to find their comfort zone Pia Toscano seems to have settled into a groove and is clearly the person to beat.
Lauren Alaina also did herself proud. Last week she was a little bit off, but this week even though she had the flu she knocked Melissa Etheridge’s “I’m the Only One” out of the park. She was back to being the girl who was just singing and having fun. I get the feeling she is at her best when she isn’t trying too hard and that she was probably a little loose on some heavy duty cold medicine probably helped Lauren Alaina. If she continues on like she did this week she could be around on American Idol for a long time.
American Idol’s Worst Women:
Naima Adedapo had another rough week. After trying to put together a full dance number last week, this week she cut down on the dancing, but it didn’t seem to help her singing that much. She has such a unique sounding voice that maybe she is meant to just sing her own songs because this week she seemed to be all over the place again and seemed like she was never really at ease with her song choice. I have a feeling Naima Adedapo has something great to show us American Idol fans; she just hasn’t done it yet.
Karen Rodriguez’s has decided that she has a trick and she is sticking with it. Switching back and forth between English and Spanish worked for her once, but now it is getting old and it seems like whenever she gets to a part of the song that could be hard to sing she switches languages as a way to distract us from the fact that she might not be that great of a singer. Karen Rodriguez we are not that dumb, we are onto your tricks. I just wonder if the American Idol judges are.
These are my American Idol winners and losers among the women for this week. Tune in tonight at 8PM on FOX to see who gets voted out and who stays.
