Top Chef DC enjoys space food with Anthony Bourdain and Buzz Aldrin on Bravo.
Last night on Top Chef DC, the five remaining Chefs had to create an out of this world meal for NASA, Buzz Aldrin and Anthony Bourdain. Up for grabs was a spot in the final four in Singapore and a chance for their meal to be freeze-dried and sent into outer space.
First things first, the Quickfire Challenge for the five remaining Top Chef DC contestants had them pairing wine with a meal they were to create. Special guest judge, Dana Cowin, editor of Food and Wine magazine, chose Angelo’s foie gras dish as the winner. Angelo, who has been in a bit of downward spiral, finally regained control of himself. A victory in the Quickfire also won Angelo an all-expenses paid trip to London. I bet Angelo was secretly praying for a trip to Russia, so he could smuggle his mail-order fiancé back into the states. Sorry Angelo!
With the Quickfire out of the way, Padma Lakshmi let the remaining contestants of Top Chef DC that after tonight’s elimination challenge, the final four cheftestants will be heading to Singapore for the final two episodes. Bravo is really pulling out all of the stops for this season of Top Chef. I guess when you win an Emmy Award; you can do whatever the hell you want! Congratulations by the way, to everyone at Top Chef for there win at the Emmys the other night.
Onward with the elimination challenge of last night’s Top Chef DC. The cheftestants were challenged to make a meal that was out of this world. Headed to NASA, the chefs met with the food scientist who makes the meals for the astronauts to eat while in space. The chefs were told that they must prepare a meal that could be freeze-dried and sent into outer space.
Each of the five chefs prepared there meals and served them to Padma Lakshmi, Anthony Bourdain, Eric Ripert, Tom Colicchio and one of the first men on the moon, Buzz Aldrin. Ripert and Bourdain battled it out, disagreeing with each other on every dish. Bourdain, at one point called Eric Ripert, “The Ripper.”
After the final five contestants of Top Chef DC presented their dishes, it was decision-making time at the judges’ table. Angelo, who claimed to make love to his dish, freaked out Anthony Bourdain but ultimately won the elimination challenge.
Being a winner of the “Gastro-nauts” elimination challenge, Angelo won a spot in the final four in Singapore, a brand new Toyota Avalon and an autographed Anthony Bourdain book.
Tiffany, who had to improvise her dish during the Elimination Challenge, was the Chef that had to pack her knives and go.
We are now down to the final four contestants of Top Chef DC.
The final four chefs: Kelly, Angelo, Ed and Kevin will battle it out in Singapore next Wednesday for a spot in the Top Chef DC Finale.
