conanConan O’Brien has a new show on TBS, simply named, Conan.

Conan O’Brien’s new TBS late night show officially has a name, Conan. After some funny Twitter suggestions and allowing the audience to weigh in with their own opinions on what it should be called, Conan O’ Brien announced this morning via video the actual show name. It will simply be called Conan.

Among the suggestions for the show sent in by fans, friends and Conan himself were: The Conan Experience, The CoCo Show Co and An Hour Of Violent Misogynistic Drunken Irish Songs. There was even the suggestion of calling it Stay Tuned For George Lopez.

Conan’s now self-titled show begins airing on November, 8th. There is still very little information about the shows format with no word yet on if he will have a sidekick or a bandleader, or for that matter even a band. Some even wonder if he will keep the beard he has grown since he was replaced at The Tonight Show by previous host Jay Leno.

Perhaps the biggest speculation is how well Conan will do in the ratings. Since Conan will be on basic cable the expectations are markedly lower than they were when he was on NBC, but his show will now air at 11 O’Clock instead of 11:35 like The Tonight Show and Late Night With David Letterman. He will be off the air before Jimmy Kimmel’s Show even starts and will now go head-to-head with late local news and The Daily Show.

There is one school of thought that believes Conan starting before the other late night shows will give him an edge. If nothing else, viewers will tune in to see who his guests are and if they like the lineup they may stick around skip the other shows. Others feel that the combination of late local news and shows like The Daily Show will bleed off his core audience. They may switch over at 11:30, but by then his show is halfway over.

Regardless of the early ratings, TBS has announced that they will stand by Conan and his new show so he will have some time to develop an audience. Now that the show has a name and an official launch date the last big question that remains is whether Conan will go on to be another one name talk show success story like Oprah and Ellen or if he will fade into the ranks of basic cable obscurity.

Conan O’Brien will make his return to late night television when Conan airs November 8th on TBS.
