American Idol Top 13 2011 Finalists
American Idol Top 13 finalists for 2011 competition.
Last night the drama was heavy and the emotions ran high (not to mention we were treated to nearly endless commercials) as American Idol paired down the top 24 to get their American Idol Top 13 finalists. There was no shortage of surprises and hard choices as the names were read. The American Idol 2011 top 13 were put together through a combination of viewer votes and judges’ picks.
The first top 10 picks all came from viewer votes. It was very simple. The top five girls and top five guys who got the most votes would move on. The five guys voted in were: Scotty McCreery, Jacob Lusk, Casey Abrams, Paul McDonald and James Durbin. The five girls voted in were: Lauren Alaina, Pia Toscano, Karen Rodriguez, Thia Megia and Haley Reinhart.
That left 14 hopefuls all hanging on and praying that the judges would give them a second chance to sing for their life on the show. After much deliberation and many commercials the judges chose six of the remaining contestants to sing again. Those six were: Kendra Chantelle, Ashthon Jones, Stefano Langone, Naima Adedapo, Robbie Rosen and Jovany Barreto. These six got a chance to sing one more time and then after more deliberation and many more commercials Ashthon Jones, Setfano Langone and Naima Adedapo were chosen to join the American Idol Top 13 and will move on.
There were some shocks. For me the biggest shock was that Julie Zorrilla wasn’t voted in and then the judges didn’t even give her a chance to sing her way in. Sure, she wasn’t very good on Wednesday night, but she has been a favorite of the judges since day one so I was surprised they didn’t give her a second chance. Also, Kendra Chantelle not making it, who at least got a shot to sing for a wild card shot, was a big surprise. There were a few others, mainly Clint Jun Gamboa and Brett Loewenstern, who were both favorites of the judges during the early portions of the season that didn’t get voted in and didn’t get a chance to sing. I have a feeling it was because Clint kind of comes off like a jerk and Brett’s version of The Doors was pretty wishy washy and not that impressive. I have always thought that the public wouldn’t embrace those two and I guess I was right.
So now we have our American Idol Top 13. Next week the fireworks begin as one by one they get voted off until we have a new champion.
