Jennifer Lawrence – Best Actress Oscar Nominee
Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for “Actress in a Leading Role,” for her performance in “Winter’s Bone.” In the movie, 19-year-old Lawrence plays a teen struggling to keep her family together after her outlaw father makes a run for it, after having put up the family home for bail money. If her father isn’t found, the family will be evicted. Lawrence, who plays a girl named Ree Dolly, sets out to find her missing dad.
Jennifer Lawrence is relatively new to acting but shone in her role. When interviewed about how she got the role, Lawrence laughingly explains, “I got involved by auditioning and being a psycho and following [director Debra Granik] all the way to New York City, and I thought it was the best role ever.”
Jennifer Lawrence grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, and by the age of 14 knew that she wanted to be an actress. She graduated from high school 2 years early so she could pursue her dream. She is currently up for the Oscar against Natalie Portman (Black Swan), Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine), Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole), and Annette Bening (The Kids are All Right). Lawrence did a great job in “Winter’s Bone,” but the competition is pretty stiff! Who do you think will snag the Oscar?
