True Grit a Coen Brothers movie is nominated for Oscar 2011 Best Picture.

Best Picture nominee True Grit is the Coen Brothers masterful remake of the 1969 classic that stared John Wayne as Rooster Gogburn a U.S. marshal who is hired by a young girl to capture the man who killed her father. The role of Rooster was made famous by John Wayne and in this remake it is handled admirably by the insanely talented Jeff Bridges. Tackling a classic like this with a remake can be tough, but here they have hit all the right notes and have been thusly rewarded with a Best Picture Oscar nomination.

As True Grit unfolds 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) hires Rooster to track down Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), the man who killed her father. Much against Rooster’s wishes Mattie insists on accompanying him to make sure the job gets done. Rooster drinks, smokers and is generally repugnant, but she believes in him. As they journey into Indian Nation they are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoef (Matt Damon) who is also on Chaney’s trail.

“True Grit” shined bright at the box office and reaffirmed that Jeff Bridges is one the best American actors working today. It also firmly established Hailee Steinfeld and one of the hottest young talents in the game. True Grit has picked up 10 Oscar nominations including: Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Director, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Picture, Best Actor for Jeff Bridges, Best supporting Actress for Hailee Steinfeld and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The Coen Brothers have long been some of the most respected film makers in Hollywood and True Grit just reaffirms that they are true talents and genuine originals. True Grit has a legit shot at winning the Best Picture Oscar. Hollywood loves Bridges and they have a soft spot for the Coens and anytime a young kid knocks one out of the park like Steinfeld does in this movie the voters tend to pay attention. Don’t be shocked if this one takes home the Best Picture Oscar.
