Oscars Best Picture Nominee James Franco in ‘127 Hours’
Oscars Best Picture Nominee James Franco in ‘127 Hours’ Oscars 2011.
The Oscars 2011 love a good true story especially if it has drama, courage and tells a harrowing tale. All of those things are true about 127 Hours which has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture.
127 Hours tells the story of mountain climber Aron Ralston (played by James Franco) who was hiking by himself in an isolated canyon in Utah when a bolder falls and traps his arm underneath it. For five days Ralston is trapped and is forced to reflex on his life while he decides how he is going to get out of her. When nobody finds him and he decides his course of action he then must summon up the courage to go through with his plan.
This is basically a one man Oscar worthy show with James Franco at the center of it. His portrayal of Ralston shows the man as a whole as he reflects on his family, past loves, friends and even two hikers he met shortly before his accident.
I won’t give away the ending in case you haven’t seen it, but Franco gives a tour de force performance here as he devises a way that he hopes will get him freed so he can get some help. 127 Hours was directed by Danny Boyle who is on a roll. Last year he directed Slumdog Millionaire which won Best Picture and here he is the following year directing another Best Picture nominee.
127 Hours is nominated for a total of six Oscars including: Best Pictures, Best Editing, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Actor for James Franco and Best Screenplay. While I think it is probably a long shot to win the Best Picture in 2011, it is very deserving of the Academy Award nomination.
