Britney Spears vs. Katy Perry Pop Star Fight!
Katy Perry and Britney Spears get into a good old fashioned girl fight!
Is there a feud brewing between Britney Spears and Katy Perry? Perry says no, but her words might actually say otherwise. What sparked the recent girl fight and which of these two ladies would win in the boxing ring? My bets are on the trailer park princess, Britney!
Britney Spears released her much hyped and anticipated video for her huge new single “Hold it Against me” just a few days ago. In the video there are some very prominent product placements including a close up of one of her fragrance bottles, her surfing on the dating site Plenty of Fish and some close-up shots of different clothes. Spears reportedly received around $500,000 for these product placements.
A few days later Katy Perry was asked if she, as a fan of a song or video, preferred product placements if it means getting a bigger budget for the video. Perry responded via Twitter, “Do it with style & grace…Not so in ur face. U hv to get creative w/it. Some artists don’t care tho & u can tell.”
Immediately it was assumed that Perry was taking a shot at Britney Spears and the “Hold it Against Me” video. When it was suggested that she was attacking Spears Perry fired off a few different responses saying that she was simply expressing her views on product placement overall and that it should be complimenting to the video and not stick out. She also went on to say that most pop singers welcome product deals to help offset the cost of the videos. She even said that she herself has used them in her videos and was happy to because the extra money helped her make a better video. She said that anyone who is suggesting she is attacking Spears specifically is lying.
There has been no reply from the Spears camp so it looks like this rumor might be dying. While Spear’s video does have some obvious product placements, it is pale in comparison to Avril Lavigne’s new video for “What the Hell” which plays like one long commercial for one product after another. At least in Spear’s video they tried to work the product placements into the storyline and theme of the video. Lavigne’s video has long close-up shots of cameras, TVs, laptops and other things that have nothing to do with the story other than selling the product. It is shameless. Maybe Katy Perry was talking about her, not Spears.
We’ll keep our eyes on this one and let you know how things unfold.
