Top Chef All Stars: Paula Deen Chef Law
Top Chef All Stars aired a brand new episode last night on BRAVO.
The Queen of Southern Cooking, Paula Deen was a guest judge this week on Top Chef All Stars. For the Quickfire Challenge the chefs had to create a deep fried dish to impress Ms. Deen. Mike Isabella won by default AND with another chef’s recipe! Antonia Lofaso would have been the winner but she goofed and only made one plate, not two, for the judging disqualifying her from the win. Mike won by making Fried Chicken Oysters served in an oyster. Richard Blasé keeps notebooks filled with ideas for new recipes and dishes including sketches, according to him, Mike had seen the Chicken Oyster recipe in his notebook just that morning. Richard mentions it to some other contestants and this is where we learn about Chef Law. Under Chef Law you never take another chef’s recipe. Mike doesn’t think he stole the idea, just used it as an inspiration. Either way, he won $5,000 and neither Antonia or Richard are too happy abou it. Better watch out for some bad chef juju Mike.
In the Top Chef Elimination Challenge Paula is joined by John Besh a well known chef and restaurant owner in New Orleans. He and Paula Deen are hosting a benefit for the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund that helps those affected by the oil spill. The chefs must make a dish from a Gulf Seafood item that will be served to 300 guests at the benefit. With there being 300 portions per chef, they are allowed help from the eliminated cheftestants. Mike picks first, then Richard, etc. Luckily for us, Fabio Viviani and Richie Blasé are reunited. And it feels so good.
The benefit goes off without a problem and the judge’s head back to discuss the dishes and chefs. At judge’s table Richard, Mike, and Antonia are on the top with Carla Hall, Tiffany Derry, and Dale Talde on the bottom. I don’t know what is going on with Carla but she better snap out of it soon or she’ll be eliminated. Tiffany could go at anytime, she isn’t interesting to me. Dale gets send home, he and Angelo weren’t able to keep up with the large lines which lead to undercooked potatoes in their stew. Who won the Elimination Challenge? Richard Blasé did with a plate of Crispy Gulf Snapper and Pulled Pork with Citrus Grits. He won a trip to Barbados and said he was going to invite Fabio to go with him and his family. Bravo – please send a camera crew to record their trip, ratings gold. Just sayin.
Next week it looks like from the previews, the chefs get a visit from either family or friends. To see how the chefs react, watch Top Chef All Stars next Wednesday on Bravo at 10p/9c.
