american idol facebookMark Zuckerberg has dipped his hands into the American Idol honey pot.

Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg has stuck in hand into the lucrative honey pot that is American Idol. For the first time ever, fans will be allowed to vote online for their favorite contestants, along with being able to still phone in and text. We thought adding Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez as judges would be the end to their “new” direction madness…we were wrong.

Host of American Idol Ryan Seacrest made the announcement earlier today. Starting March 1st, when the first LIVE Idol show airs, viewers will be able to go to americanidol.com, login with their Facebook accounts and VOTE. A total of 50 online votes may be cast per Facebook user, per performance show. FOX is limiting it to fans who are registered in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Supposedly Idol has wanted to do online voting for years and Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook has offered a secure solution. Wait, wasn’t his Facebook account hacked a couple of weeks ago? [sounds secure to me]

Anyways, get your clicking fingers ready as the American Idol Online Voting goes live on March 1st after the performance show!
