American Idol Contestants Sing The Beatles
Tonight’s American Idol contestants sing The Beatles in Las Vegas.
Tonight is a big night on American Idol. We get special two hour show tonight. There are 52 contestants remaining and tonight that number will start to shrink.
The remaining contestants, some surprises and some who have been favorites since their initial audition, travel to Las Vegas where they will have perform the songs of The Beatles. That alone is a daunting task. One criticism I have always had of American Idol is that the contestants choose iconic songs to sings and then they don’t make them their own. What we end up with is a karaoke version of a classic song and it just isn’t that good.
This week, with The Beatles on tap, the contestants will be tackling some of the most beloved and revered songs in history. I am looking especially forward to seeing how Scotty McCreery and John Wayne Schulz handle this task. Both are old school style country singers so these songs have to be a mile away from their comfort zone. I also look for Steven Tyler to be critical of people. It is well known that he is a big Beatles fan so he will be watching with a hawks eye.
The drama and tension on AI will get ratcheted up a notch to as these 52 get paired down to the final 24 that will then be voted on by America. This will be a test of not only talent, but nerves. Can Hollie Cavanagh and Jacee Badeaux keep it together through this pressure? Both have had bouts with nerves so far this season and have come through strong. It will be interesting to see how the youngsters deal. For me another big question mark is Ashley Sullivan. There is no doubt she has a nice voice, but she has such ups and downs emotionally and seems to be on the verge of falling apart at any given second. Last week she wanted to quit the show, but her boyfriend talked her into stay and she was able to move on. Will she be able to keep it together long enough to tackle The Beatles challenge or will her nerves finally get the best of her?
Tune in tonight at 8PM on FOX to watch the drama, singing and heartbreak unfold.
