Daytona 500 Winner: Trevor Bayne NASCAR 2011 Champion
The 2011 NASCAR season kicked off yesterday with the Daytona 500. Who was the winner?
NASCAR 2011 is officially underway with yesterdays Daytona 500. Odds favored Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. so who was the winner? Trevor Bayne! Trevor who? That’s right ladies and gentlemen, Trevor Bayne (Wood Brothers #21 car) a 20-year-old rookie won yesterdays Daytona 500, making him the youngest driver to ever be bring home the victory. What happened to the two favorites?
Yesterday’s Daytona 500 race was one hell of a way to kick off the 2011 NASCAR season. With a newly paved Daytona International Speedway, the drivers had to use a new method of racing. What you witnessed yesterday was 2 car bump drafting, the fastest possible method to obtain top speeds. It was pretty wild as you had non-teammates helping each other out by pushing them through the field. Favorite to win, Kevin Harvick was the first to experience the downfall of this new 2-car buddy system; his engine blew up!
After a record amount of caution flags, including the one that took out Dale Earnhardt Jr. right at the end, Trevor Bayne won the Daytona 500 race. NASCAR wasn’t prepared for Bayne to win as the kid didn’t even have any merchandise available at the official nascar story…that is until now. Hell, Bayne isn’t even scheduled to run a full cup season (that may change now), yesterday’s race was his 2nd cup race ever and he won!
I am not jumping on any bandwagon here but this kid deserves a round of applause. Not only for his age (20 on Saturday) but for the team he represents…the Wood Brothers! I want to say congratulations to Trevor Bayne for winning the 2011 Daytona 500!
