Justin Bieber: Grammy Awards, NBA All Star Game 2011 MVP
Justin Bieber won MVP at the 2011 NBA Celebrity All-Star game, snubbed at Grammy Awards.
Justin Bieber can play basketball! This was revealed at the NBA Celebrity All-Star game, where the 16-year-old pop star walked away with the Most Valuable Player Award. Justin played on team West, which lost, but Bieber was still named MVP out of everyone playing. The 2011 BBVA Celebrity All-Star Game was held this past Friday at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Chris Mullen, who used to be general manager for the Golden State Warriors, even said, “He’s got a nice little game, but more importantly, he’s got great passion. It looked like he loves the game.”
While Justin’s celeb peers love his basketball game, they don’t appear to dig his singing, as much. Bieber was snubbed at the Grammy’s, where he failed to take home the Best New Artist award. In a vitriolic full page New York Times ad, music exec Steve Stoute chastised the Grammy Awards for snubbing both Justin Bieber and Eminem (who Stoute felt should have won for best new album).
Stoute writes, “Interesting that the Grammys understands cultural relevance when it comes to using Eminem’s, Kanye West’s or Justin Bieber’s name in the billing to ensure viewership and to deliver the all-too-important ratings for its advertisers…Does the Grammys intentionally use artists for their celebrity, popularity and cultural appeal when they already know the winners and then program a show against this expectation?”
The letter in its entirety is quite long, and I wonder if perhaps Stoute has a closet case of Bieber Fever. Regardless, Stoute does make some good points, but Stoute appeared more concerned than Justin Bieber himself did over the award ceremony loss.
