Top Chef All Stars: Sesame Street, Paula Deen Preview

top chef all stars targetTop Chef All Stars aired its brand new episode “Lock Down” this past week.

$30,000 was given away this week on Top Chef All Stars, $5,000 in the Quickfire and $25,000 in the Elimination Challenge. It ALL went to one person. Dale. His temper ruined it for him on his season but he has really improved the attitude and is kicking ass with his cooking this season. The Quickfire challenge this week was pretty simple; make the best cookie you can. The expert judge was none other than Cookie Monster from Sesame Street along with his pals Elmo and Telly. [next week its Paula Deen!] Antonia and Dale were the two top favorites and as you know, Dale’s cookie (Pretzel and Potato Chip Shortbread Cookie with Salted Caramel Chocolate Ganache) won.

We got to go to everyone’s favorite place for the Top Chef Elimination Challenge this week. Target! Well, it’s one of my favorite places anyway. The challenge was a tough. The chefs had three hours to cook a meal for 100 Target employees. That in itself doesn’t seem too bad but then we find out they had to ‘shop’ for EVERYTHING they would need to cook and serve their dishes, as well as prepare the food within the three hour time frame. They were only able to use whatever appliances and food available in the store. Most of the chefs decided on soup as their meal, but after spending time running around gathering everything they needed, many of their soups did not have time to really develop and flavor and were the judges least favorites. Antonia, Richard and Dale with the judges top three with Dale winning the challenge. He made Ribeye Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and Spicy Tomato Soup, toasting his sandwiches with clothing irons!

Angelo, with his awesome ensemble of black socks, shorts and white sneakers, was sent home having made an over salty Potato Soup. Sidebar: when did his and Mike’s Top Chef bromance start? I feel so cheated out of what was potentially very comedic television. Back to eliminations – I was very worried for my girl Carla; I don’t know what the hell she was doing wandering around for almost 2 hours before even starting to cook. She was in the bottom three but made it out alive. I’m hoping this was her brain fart week and she’ll be back on top next challenge.

Next Week:  Butter Queen Paula Deen visits the Top Chef All Stars kitchen, Wednesday on Bravo at 10p/9c.
