The third episode of season four of LA Ink was swirling with questions. Will Corey Miller come back to High Voltage Tattoo and work with Kat Von D? Will he stay and work at his own shop or will he join American Electric? Does the crew even want him back? Kat didn’t seem too enthusiastic about bringing him back into the fold and Corey was annoyed at being left in limbo.

While some questions still remain at the end of the episode there are some great signs that the show is getting back to what made it good in the first place. At its outset, LA Ink was about Kat Von D, her life and this shop including the art and artists surrounding it. The show was about the tattoos and the stories behind them. In recent seasons the show seemed to have gotten marred in a slush pool of fake and over edited drama. It seemed like nobody actually had real conversations and there were fewer and fewer tattoos done on the show.

Those seem to now be things of the past. Most of the actual drama, aside from Corey and Kat’s issues, has switched to American Electric where Amy is angry with Paulie for giving a tattoo to a different artists when Amy was clearly next in line for next walk in customer.

Very talented artists Nikko Hurtado returns to finish a portrait set and delivers one of the finest portraits you will ever see. Kat gets in on the action as she tattoos a portrait of a woman’s husband who is battling cancer and she even does some quick text work as she tattoos song lyrics onto former American Idol contestant Kimberly Caldwell‘s shoulder blade. As fans of the show know, the stories behind the tattoos are often heartbreaking and emotional and this week’s do not disappoint.

We start to see more of Kat Von D‘s life again as she gets interviewed by her boyfriend Nikki Sixx and then tattoos his radio show logo on his calf and she introduces us to a long time friend of her’s who is now a crashing at her place for a little while.

As the episode winds down we learn that crew loves Corey and would like to see him return so the issues between Corey and Kat come to a head, a decision is made, but we will have to wait until next week to find out what happens. Will Corey return to the shop? Will he go to American Electric? Or will he stay home? The previews lead us to believe that at long last we will find out next week if the guy Kat has called The Rock of the shop will return or not.

The LA Ink seems to be back on track, let’s just hope it can stay there.

  1. Don’t care one way of the other if he comes back or not. I liked Aubry. I think Cory wanted Kat all for himself.
