Florida High Speed Rail: Rick Scott Rejects Federal Funds

florida high speed railFlorida Governor Rick Scott rejected federal funds offered to build a high-speed rail system connecting Orlando with Tampa.

The Florida High-Speed Rail would link Orlando and Tampa together with stops at Florida’s biggest tourist attraction, Disney. Governor Rick Scott wasn’t having it though as he rejected the rail way system promoted by President Barack Obama. Scott turned his nose up at the proposed $2 billion in Federal funding saying that the Florida High Speed Rail link is too costly.

I guess Governor Rick Scott’s main concern with the rail system is that if the project failed, Florida would be required to refund that $2 billion in federal funds; a risk he is not willing to take.

The Florida High Speed Rail link is not the first to be rejected. Rick Scott joins the Ohio and Wisconsin governors who also turned down plans to build high speed rail systems.
