UFC 127: Fight Card, BJ Penn vs. Jon Fitch
UFC 127 airs tonight and the matchup between Fitch and Penn should be really good.
The UFC returns to Australia for the second time and if ticket sales are any indication UFC 127 should be a hot show. The event sold out in mere minutes and features an Australian fighter on the main fight card. There are a few different intriguing fights on the night’s card that could help make this a great event, including the main event between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch.
The UFC preliminary card of the event features a bout that matches Ross Pearson and Spencer Fisher. Fisher is 1-2 in his last three fights, but coming off a win over Curt Warburton in UFC 120. Pearson is coming off a recent loss to Cole Miller, but is 4-1 in his last five fights. With the infusion of new blood from the WEC in the Lightweight division both of these guys are eager to prove they are worthy of being on the main card of an event.
On the UFC 127 main card we have the aforementioned Australian fighter George Sotiropoulos matched against Dennis Siver. Sotiropoulos is no joke. He isn’t on this card because of where he is from (although I’m sure that has something to do with it), but he is 14-2 in career and riding an 8 fight win streak. His opponent may not have as stellar of a record, but he is a tough guy who has been in against some big name, high quality opponents so you know he will come to fight.
Michael Bisping will take on Jorge Rivera in a clash of Middleweights. Rivera is veteran of the octagon who has taken on, and in some cases beaten, some pretty tough guys. He likes to swing and has most of his wins by knockout so you know he will be coming right at Bisping. Bisping has proven himself as one of the best middleweights in the world. He has had some mixed results as of late, but has come on strong in his last two fights by beating a couple of quality fighters. Like Rivera, Bisping likes to strike, but he can take it to the ground. This one could be a war.
The main even features BJ Penn facing off against Jon Fitch. This fight is in the Welterweight division where Penn has been very successful. Penn recently destroyed Matt Hughes and looks to carry that momentum into the octagon against Fitch. Fitch is one hell of a fighter himself. He has only one loss since 2002 which was to current Middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre. Both these guys see this fight as putting them in line for a title shot so you know they will be motivated and come out strong. This one has the makings of being a fantastic fight.
There show, being broadcast from Australia, may have some time zone issues, but there are plenty of options available to watch it live. You can get the UFC 127 pay-per-view from your cable provider, watch it live on the UFC website or watch the streams on Yahoo. It should be a fun, action packed night of fights.
