Miley Cyrus: Marie Claire, Drugs, Divorce
“Hannah Montana” star Miley Cyrus has opened up about the salvia scandal that went down the week of her 18th birthday. The March issue of Marie Claire magazine quizzes Miley on the incident, asking if the pop star felt unfairly judged since the substance she was captured smoking on video was a legal hallucinogen and she wasn’t breaking the law or doing anything many teens haven’t tried before.
Miley Cyrus admitted that she regretted the incident, and wanted to set a better example for her young audience. “But they’re not Miley Cyrus,” the singer said, when compared to other teens. “They’re not role models. So for me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for.” she continued.
Miley also commented on her parents’ imminent divorce. Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus had been together more than 17 years, and the divorce has taken a toll on Miley’s mental health. Could this be what prompted her to try salvia? “Of course anyone is going to be upset when there are troubles in their family,” the star says. “But I have a lot of hope in our family and no matter what happens, we’re gonna stay strong.”
The issue of Marie Claire with Miley Cyrus will be available on newsstands February 15th.
