Christina Aguilera’s Super Bowl Slip 2011
Christina Aguilera may have slipped up at the Super Bowl XLV but she did fine in rehearsal.
The public has been super critical of Christina Aguilera, who performed the National Anthem during Sunday’s Super Bowl XLV with some flaws. The Super Bowl, however, is a huge event, even for a diva like Aguilera, who has been in the business for years.
But Christina Aguilera did practice before the Super Bowl, and the part she screwed up on was sung perfectly before (as demonstrated in a rehearsal video leaked by TMZ). While Aguilera was singing the National Anthem and messing up, cameras panned to show speculators (including football players, coaches, and the audience) looking clearly puzzled over her rendition.
Later, Christina issued a statement, saying “I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”
Over 100,000 people were in the Cowboy’s stadium during the performance, with about 110 million people watching in the United States alone. That’s enough embarrassment to last Christina Aguilera awhile, and while the performance was cringe-worthy, it could have been worse; at least it was truly sung with heart. A recent study also showed that more than 2/3 of Americans can’t even recite the National Anthem correctly, so that says something too!
