Superman: Man of Steel Cast 2011
Superman: Man of Steel cast seeks two female roles for the brand new film.
Seemingly out of nowhere one of the hottest, most sought after roles in Hollywood is that of Lois Lane. The previous Superman movie called Superman Returns did well by most standards at the box office as it took in around $200 million dollars in the US, but considering that the budget of the movie was around $232 million that doesn’t look so great. Add in some lukewarm reviews and it made Superman’s future look in doubt. Can Superman: Man of Steel overcome the odds of a disaster?
But none of that seems to have slowed Superman: Man of Steel. Superman: Man of Steel covers the two years following Superman’s defeat of Lex Luthor. Zach Snyder of 300 and Watchmen fame is set to direct and with the casting of Henry Cavill as Superman suddenly this project has a lot of buzz surrounding it. There are still two big female lead roles that need to be filled including the iconic role of Lois Lane and the role of Mercy Graves who was Lex Luthor’s henchwoman and assistant.
There have been a lot of names thrown around for these two roles including Kristen Bell, Malin Akerman, Alice Eve and Rosmund Pike. Rumor has it that the role of Lois Lane was offered to Emily Blunt, but she turned it down because she didn’t want to get typecast as Lois Lane. Anne Hathaway was also rumored to be offered the role, but she opted for Catwoman in the new Batman movie.
Now some bigger names are suddenly entering the Superman conversation. Jessica Biel, Mila Kunis, Rachael McAdams, Rashida Jones and Mary Elisabeth Winstead are all rumored to be up for the role. Also said to be in the running are Kristen Stewart, Olivia Wilde and Glee’s Dianna Agron. Dianna Agron and Kristen Stewart seem to be the hot choices. Glee is a huge hit is on the cusp of potentially getting bigger as it won the coveted spot of being the show that follows the Super Bowl. She also has a hot new action movie I Am Number Four coming out and she just looks right for the part. She is blond, pretty and has that girl next door kind of thing going.
Kristen Stewart is on the other end of that spectrum. She is darker, brooding and seems about as far away from Lois Lane as you can get. Maybe that is exactly what Snyder is looking for, an anti-Lois Lane type of Lois Lane. The question is which Stewart would we get? The very good Kristen Stewart from movies like Adventureland and Into the Wild or the Twilight Stewart who appears to not be so good? In her defense, it isn’t like Twilight gives her a lot to work with. She could bring something different to the role, but I have a felling after Twilight she isn’t too interested in getting into another possible franchise. I think she is going to stick to smaller stuff for a while.
Olivia Wilde has also come up in recent days and while she is very good looking, she might be a little too edgy for the part.
With so many names being thrown around it is hard to know who really is in the running and who just has a good publicist who can get their name in the paper. I have a feeling we will find out who gets these roles very soon as Superman: Man of Steel is set to start shooting in the not too far off future.
