Cake Boss Death: Sal Picinich Dies at Age 63
Sal Picinich of the hit show Cake Boss dies at the age of 63.
Sad news for the crew of the Cake Boss. The hit TLC show returned to the air last night for its fourth season, but with a heavy heart as one of their own, Sal Picinich die at the age of 63-years-old.
Sal Picinich started working for Carlo’s Bake Shop in 1964. He originally worked for Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro’s father Buddy Sr. He has long been one of the most trusted and respected employees. He was featured in the hit TV show, but stopped appearing in the show at the end of 2009 as he battled cancer. He did make a brief appearance in 2010 when Buddy awarded him with the Employee of the Century Award as the bakery celebrated its 100th anniversary. Sal had worked at Carlo’s nearly half of those 100 years.
After a prolonged battle with cancer, Sal lost his fight and passed away on Sunday. At the end of last night’s season premier they aired a special tribute to him. Buddy has said that he always looked up to Picinich as a “second father” and Sal, in return, was dedicated to his work and the bakery.
Sal Picinich is survived by his wife of 38 years Lucille who said that her husband was a “man of little words,” but that he did enjoy his brief celebrity that came in the last few years as Cake Boss became one of TLC’s hit shows.
Sal’s funeral will be held on Friday.
