Elizabeth Olsen Sundance Sensation 2011
Elizabeth Olsen named Sundance Sensation at 2011 Film Festival.
Everyone in the world has heard of her sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, but few people probably knew that they had a younger sister Elizabeth Olsen. As the Sundance Film Festival comes to a close, that reality is about to come to an end.
Elizabeth Olsen has been the talk of the town in Sundance. At a festival where many big stars turn out to support their various projects, Olsen has let her work – not her name – do the talking for her.
Show business website The Wrap named her “Sundance Sensation” and the performances she gives in the two movies she had playing at Sundance have caused major buzz around her. These movies, “Martha Marcy May Marlene” and “Silent House” have both been hits. Her performance in “Marta Marcy May Marlene” where she portrays a young woman who struggles to reenter the regular world after living in a secretive cult has had audiences and critics raving. The movie has been bought by Fox Searchlight who will likely distribute it.
Growing up in the shadow of Mary-Kate and Ashley she not only saw the ups and downs of the entertainment business, but she also saw what a profound effect the constant media attention can have on your life. Like her sisters, she began acting as a child, but not in movies or TV, she opted for community theater. When she got older she attended New York University and looked for work in the theater. Going to college and working in the theater kept her under the radar and allowed her to form a core group of friends. She knows that success as an actor comes with media scrutiny, but feels like she has put herself in a decent place to handle it.
Elizabeth Olsen knows that people will always be interested in her famous sisters, but she seems to have chosen a path that will allow her to step out of their shadow and do her own thing. She worked hard developing her craft and now has made a splash not as the sister of the famous Olsen twins, but as the girl who was really good in those movies.
It looks like this route is already paying off. With both her movies hits at Sundance Film Festival she has already signed on to star opposite Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver in the thriller “Red Lights.” At the rate she is going pretty soon people might say that Mary-Kate and Ashley are the older sisters of that actress Elizabeth Olsen.
