Troy Aikman: Super Bowl 2011 and Divorce
Troy Aikman files for divorce from his wife of 10 years, Rhonda; heads to the Super Bowl.
It is the best times and worst of times for Troy Aikman. He is going back to Dallas and back to the Super Bowl 2011, only this time as an announcer, but he is also in midst of getting divorced from his wife, Rhonda Aikman.
Joe Buck and Troy Aikman have quickly become FOX Broadcasting’s premier football announcing team so this year they will be announcing the Super Bowl. But it isn’t all good news for Troy as today there was an announcement that Troy and his wife of ten years Rhonda Aikman have separated and are divorcing. The two met in 1999 and were married in 2000. Speculation that their marriage was in trouble started back in November when Rhonda purchased a house in North Dallas. Apparently the two separated shortly after, but they have kept it quiet until this week. The couple had two children together and Rhonda has one child from a previous relationship. Troy Aikman issued the following statement: “This has been a difficult decision for Rhonda and me, but after 10 years of marriage we have decided to separate. We remain deeply committed to our children.”
Aikman has historically been very guarded about his private life. I recently read a book about the Aikman era Dallas Cowboys and he was portrayed as a guy who was always worried that women would use him for his fame and money. He was known to be very protective of his private life and very careful with whom he dated so it is no surprise that he waited until the end of his playing days to settle down and get into a long term relationship. There is no word on if the couple has a pre-nup or not.
We wish them both well and hope they can have a drama free divorce and look forward to hearing Troy Aikman announce the 2011 Super Bowl XLV on February 6th.
