X-Men First Class: January Jones, James McAvoy, Kevin Bacon
January Jones and Jennifer Lawrence dish on their sexy outfits for X-Men: First Class.
There was a lot of news today about the new X-Men movie, X-Men First Class and some of the cast. The cast, story and much about the movie has been kept under pretty tight wraps, but with the movie – officially titled X-Men: First Class – set to release on June 3rd they seem to be slowly starting to leak some information. According to producer Bryan Singer they are still filming and working hard to get the movie done and make is a good as they possibly can.
X-men: First Class is a prequel of sorts. It goes back in time to find how the X-men were originally formed. It has an entirely new cast headed by James McAvoy as a young Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender as his friend who would later become arch enemy Eric Lehnsherr AKA Magneto. Gone are Wolverine, Cyclops and Storm. They are replaced with January Jones who is perfectly cast as Emma Frost, Jason Flemyng as Azazel, Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw and Lucas Till as Havok. Rounding out the cast are Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Zoe Kravitz as Angel Salvadore, Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee and Di Gathergi as Darwin.
The story takes place in the 1960’s and finds Charles Xavier and Eric Lehnsherr as friends who discover their powers for the first time. As they explore these powers they are simultaneously influenced by the surroundings and climate of the day and the story supposedly includes real events of that time. As they develop their powers they are pulled in different directions once they realize they have different worldviews and a different idea of how these powers can be used.
January Jones was said to be a little nervous about her costumes for the movie because Emma Frost is known for her barely there outfits. She jokingly said just struck flattering poses and hoped for the best. Jennifer Lawrence had some body issues of her own to deal with. Every day she worked on the movie started with her stripping naked so a crew of women could paint her entire body blue. “Nothing is sacred anymore,” she jokes. She also jokes around that they got her a “Biggest Loser” type of trainer to yell at her every day so she could get in shape and look great. Since her entire costume is basically just makeup, there was nowhere to hide any flaws.
It is a smart move bringing in a solid cast that is otherwise known mostly for their work in dramatic movies and TV shows. That should help bring some levity to the story. The key to any successful comic book movie is to treat it as if it were real and it looks like producer Singer, who also directed the first two X-men movies is working hard to do just that.
X-Men: First Class is probably the make or break installment of the series. If it does well at the box office we could continue to see more in the X-men series. If it fails to impress as the last one did it will likely be the last of them. Singer is one of the best directors/producers in the business so I have a feeling this one is going to be good.
