Neil Patrick Harris to Replace Regis Philbin?
Will Neil Patrick Harris replace Regis Philbin on Live! With Regis and Kelly?
Regis Philbin, former host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and the early incarnation of America’s Got Talent has announced plans to step down from his most famous program, Live with Regis and Kelly. The 79 year old weekday talk show host (who looks astonishingly young), has said the following, “There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera – especially certain old people.”
Regis has hosted Live with Regis for over 25 years, and now a replacement is needed for the popular program, which co-stars Kelly Ripa. It is still unknown who will fill his shoes, but it’s been speculated that Jeff Probst (who has been a fill in for the show many times) is a possible contender. Other possibilities include Mark Conseulos (Kelly Ripa’s husband), Ryan Seacrest, and Neil Patrick Harris. Keep in mind that these are mere speculations, and that nothing will probably be known for awhile. The precise date of Regis’ final show is still not even known, although it appears he will be retiring at the end of this summer.
Regis Philbin began his career in the 1950s, and has received notable recognitions and honors, such as the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008, from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He has also won an Emmy award, 3 times. He also has been recognized by the Guiness Book of World Records for having the most on-air television hours ever (a record of 16,000+ hours, which has yet to be broken).
