Glee Season 2: Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, Golden Globes
Glee dominated last night’s Golden Globe Awards; flew under radar of Ricky Gervais’ jokes.
Last night’s Golden Globe Awards were, as per normal, a mixed affair with a variety of people winning and some major upsets in some big categories. However, it was also an announcement to anyone who may not have been paying attention that Glee has arrived and is now officially a force to be reckoned with.
Never mind the big ratings, A list guest stars like Britney Spears and Gwyneth Paltrow or the fact that they have now had more songs on the charts than any musical act in history other than Elvis Presley. Last night Glee won three Golden Globe Awards. Taking home awards were actors Chris Colfer who won for Supporting Actor, TV Series, Miniseries or Movie and Jane Lynch who won for Supporting Actress, TV Series, Miniseries or Movie. The show itself won Best Musical or Comedy beating out such hits as The Big Bang Theory and 30 Rock.
For most of its first season and even the beginning of this season, Glee was the little show that could, but now it is safe to say that it has arrived. With this comes some pressure. When you fly under the radar you are free to experiment or gamble, but now Glee is officially the IT show of the moment. Everyone wants to be on the show (rumors are Anne Hathaway is the next big guest star) and I would imagine that there are many musical acts that are clamoring to get their songs done on the show.
Glee’s next big moment comes after the Super Bowl. They have been picked to be the show that will follow the Super Bowl and be exposed to the nearly 90 million US visitors who will be stuffed on hot wings, brats, ribs and other football foods and lying prone in front of the TV. Glee has a special football themed show planed that involves the team dressed as zombies and doing Michael Jackson’s thriller.
Now that Glee is officially big time it should be interesting to see how they respond and what they come up with. I have a feeling that they are probably up for the challenge.
