Helena Bonham Carter’s Wonderland at 2011 Golden Globe Awards
Helena Bonham Carter is in her own Wonderland.
Say what you will about Helena Bonham Carter, but I adore her. Everyone may be thinking that she, well, wasn’t thinking when she puts on most of her ‘outfits.’ Now, you have notice that she does keep up with trends. Her 68th Golden Globe Awards ensemble kept with the current silhouettes, replacing layers of ruffles with tulle and mixed prints.
In an interview with the New York Times, Helena Bonham Carter stated that the tabloids in Britain regularly showed her with captions of ‘what was she thinking?! How dare she?!’ as if she committed some sort of heinous crime.
“Now I feel like I have a reputation to keep,” she says. “I have a responsibility now to dress badly, so it’s kind of liberating.” She has even asked Vivienne Westwood if she could just wear the muslin (that’s the preliminary dress made in basic fabric before the dress is actually sewn) instead of the finished product.
That said, I can’t really get into those shoes. I know what she was thinking: “How can I push the envelope more?” Instead, it looks like she’s trying a little too hard to be outlandish. I love the dress though. Her looks always keep things fun and a little more relaxed.
She definitely stood out amongst the other stars, most opting for elegant gowns in solid colors, soft contours, ruffles, and asymmetrical styling. Not to mention matching shoes.
Helena Bonham Carter can be seen in 2010 box office hits Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I, and Golden Globes best film nominee The King’s Speech.
