Miss America Pageant 2011: Brooke Burke Preview
Tonight the Miss America Pageant will be hosted by Brooke Burke.
Tonight and 9PM EST on ABC is the 90th annual Miss America Pageant. While the luster of the Miss America Pageant may have dimmed over the last decade, it is still the biggest of the major beauty pageants and the title seems to draw the most respect. Tonight’s show will be hosted by Brooke Burke and Chris Harrison. Current Miss America Caressa Cameron will be there to hand over the crown.
These days there are so many different beauty pageants that it is hard to tell one from the other. Miss America has had to make changes in order to compete with other pageants like Miss USA. Among those changes are potentially sexier formal gowns and bikini bathing suits for the bathing/fitness portion of the competition.
Tonight’s show is actually the culmination of a three day event. Two preliminary days have already been finished. Tonight after an opening number we will meet the 16 finalist including one that has been chosen by the fans via online and cell phone votes. These 16 will compete in the swimsuit, evening gown, talent and interview competitions. After the scores for swimsuit, evening gown and talent are compiled and added with the contestant’s preliminary score the top five finalists will be announced. Each of those ladies will be asked a question during the interview portion. Each judge will then rank the girls in order of how they would place them and a winner will be announced.
The top prize for the pageant is $50,000. The first runner-up will get $25,000 and third place gets $20,000. Every girl that competes will get at least $3,000. During the preliminary competition Miss Michigan Katie LaRoche won a $6,000 scholarship when she won the Quality of Life award which is given for volunteerism and community service.
Tune in tonight at 9PM EST on ABC to see it all happen live from Las Vegas.
