Cee-Lo Green and Gwyneth Paltrow Saturday Night Live duet a direct result of recent Glee performance. When you think of duets you typically think of two singers with similar styles collaborating on a song.  I would guess Cee Lo and Paltrow would be pretty low on any person’s list of possible duet partners. That is, until a few weeks ago.

Cee Lo Green blew up our radios and IPods with his smash hit “F**k You” towards the end of last summer. It was everywhere, and deservedly so. It is a great song that has all the vibe and flavor you want from a song like that. “F**k You” instantly ranks among the great f**k off songs off all time among such classics as Alanis Morissette’s “You Ought To Know” and REM’s “The One I Love.” The beauty of the song is that it is a juxtaposition of ideas. The beat and the music are happy, driving and uplifting, but the words are filled with venom. It is telling someone off with a smile on your face. A few weeks ago while guest starring on the hit show Glee Gwyneth Paltrow did her version of the song. Of course for a prime time network show it was cleaned up and called “Forget You” and like Cee Lo’s original it was instantly a hit. It shot straight to number 1 on the iTunes song chart for November and sold very well.

Cee Lo, when asked about her version, said he loved it and was impressed with her vocal abilities and she has been nothing but complimentary about him and the song. Now it looks like the two are set to unite. Gwyneth Paltrow will be hosting Satuday Night Live on January 15th and Cee Lo Green is set to be the musical guest that week. Rumor has it that not only are the two going to collaborate on a song during the show, but that they are also scheduled to go into the recording studio that week to collaborate on a song. Both parties have played coy about this potential collaboration, most likely to peak viewer interest in the show.

I for one am curious to find out just what kind of a duet these two can cook up. With Cee Lo involved it should be a little bit wild, a little bit crazy and have a groove to it that hits you in the chest. We will have to wait at least another week and a half to find out just what this might sound like.

Make sure to tune in on January 15th to watch Gwyneth Paltrow and Cee-Lo Green on Saturday Night Live.
