the biggest loser 2011“The Biggest Loser” 2011 premiere tonight on NBC; Jillian Michaels’ final season.

Season 11 of “The Biggest loser” kicks off tonight and it looks like it could be an interesting season as Jillian Michaels returns. For starters this season the contestants will be in pairs. They have done versions of this in the past so it isn’t that new. Here the pairs are made up of friends, siblings, couples etc. The big twist is that there will be two new trainers brought onto the show and the contestants will have to make a decision: train with Bob and Jillian on the ranch like all the past seasons of The Biggest Loser, or take a chance and go with these two new unknown trainers at an undisclosed location.

I have a feeling that the new trainers serve two purposes. First, after ten previous seasons they want to mix it up some and breathe a little new life into the show. Second, Jillian Michaels has already said that she will be leaving the show at the end of the season to they will need to find a replacement. If one of these new trainers is popular with the audience they could be that replacement.

As with most seasons of Biggest Loser, Season 11 has an interesting cast of characters in it. There is an opera singer who hopes that losing weight will help her find the career that she dreams of. Twin Brothers Don and Dan face pain because Dan recently lost a son who was only 28 years old. He has a daughter who is nine and he has sleep apnea, high blood pressure and bad health brought on by his weight. He wants to honor the memory of his son by losing the weight so he can be there for his daughter. Maybe one of the most interesting cast members is Rulon Gardner. Rulon overcame all the odds and shocked the world when he beat Alexander Karelin in the 2000 Summer Olypmics to win the gold medal. Karelin was unbeaten in thirteen years and hadn’t even given up a point in six years. Gardner defied all the odds, beat him and became an overnight star.  He has always been big, but now at 39 years old he is 474 pounds and wants badly to return to form he had before.

It could be a very interesting, drama and emotion filled season of The Biggest Loser. Tune in tonight on NBC at 8pm for the season premier.
