DMX Denied Bail, Stays In Jail
It looks like DMX will be spending the holiday behind bars after a judge denied him bail this morning in his case related to parole violation.
DMX is currently in jail in Phoenix after being arrested last Thursday for probation violations that included using cocaine and Oxycontin as well as failing to submit to a drug test, refusing drug counseling and driving with a suspended license. DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, has been on probation from charges stemming a conviction for attempted aggravated assault and using a fake a name to avoid paying a $7,500 hospital bill.
DMX has a long history of trouble with the law. In the past five years he has been in jail for drug possession, attempting to carjack a vehicle, claiming to be a federal agent, theft, animal cruelty, attempted aggravated assault, probation violation, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and DUI. This newest offense could land him behind bars for a while.
From the time his debut album “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot” came out in 1998 and went platinum four times to 2006 when his sixth album “Year of the Dog…Again” landed at #2 on the billboard charts DMX ruled the rap and pop charts. He sold over 15 million albums in the US alone and was one of raps highest paid, most sought after artists. His distinct voice and aggressive vocal style set him apart from other MC’s and made his albums intense and very popular. He has also acted in over a dozen movies, but recent years have seen him in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. DMX hasn’t released an album since 2006, but has two coming out in December. It remains to be seen if all the negative publicity from the large amount of legal troubles he has had will help or hurt his sales. Five years between projects in any entertainment field is a long time, in hip hop it is a lifetime. At the pace he is going he may be in jail during the release.
We will keep an eye on the proceedings to see how this current case works out, but for now it seems like the only feast DMX is having on Thanksgiving in the one that is being served in the jail cafeteria.
