New Music Tuesday: Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna and Glee’s Christmas Album
Tuesday is a day of music and today we have new releases from Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna and the case of Glee.
We have some pretty big new records hitting the stores this week. I’ll cover some of the bigger records coming out this week (Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna and a Glee Christmas Album) that might catch your eyes among the many new music releases this week.
Bruce Springsteen just had a very interesting documentary on HBO called “The Promise.” The movie combines interviews with a ton of footage to show Springsteen in the studio recording his landmark album “Darkness at the Edge of Town” this week sees the release of the soundtrack to that movie called “The Promise” it consists of never before heard tracks, demos and alternate versions of songs. The documentary was fascinating and any Bruce Springsteen or classic rock fan should check this one out. Springsteen called Darkness his “samurai” record. He had spent four years without putting any music out due to a major lawsuit between he and his management and now was finally able to record again so he wrote about taking a stand and drawing a line in the sand. “The Promise” also comes in a boxed edition that has the movie as well as a second DVD and about three times as much music including a fully remastered version of “Darkness on the Edge of Town.”
Also releasing today is Rihanna‘s new album “Loud.” Rihanna is said to have not been very happy with her last album “Rated R” so when she was done with her tour she went right back in the studio to get to work on “Loud.” While “Rated R” was a darker, more edgy record, “Loud” returns Rihanna to her roots of more radio friendly pop and R&B. She seems comfortable and keeps the vibe upbeat through most of the record. There are a few rock numbers including “California King Bed” and she slows it down for the emotional “Man Down” a breakup song that allows her to turn down the effects and show off her voice. “Loud” returns Rihanna to the girl that everyone seemed to love a few records back and she seems happy to have returned from the dark side. There is also a deluxe edition of the album available that features about 30 minutes worth of video including some music videos and behind the scenes footage.
In the honorable mention area this week we have Pink releasing a greatest hits album and Nelly back with a new rap album titled “5.0”. The cast of Glee continues their assault on the charts with a Christmas album simply titled “Glee: The Music, The Christmas Album.“ Kid Rock also continues his transformation from Detroit Rocker to country crooner with “Born Free” and Keith Urban is sure to score big on the country charts with his newest “Get Closer.”
There is a lot of stuff out there this week and much more on the way as we get closer and closer to the holidays. Enjoy and happy listening.
