New Music Tuesday: Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Diddy Dirty Money
Today we have new music by Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne and Diddy Dirty Money among others.
This week finds some interesting new music out there that is worth mentioning. First off, on the singles side of things we are in a countdown to the video for Britney Spears’ smash hit “Hold it Against Me.” The countdown started a few days ago and has about 10 days left. Every day Britney is posting a 5-6 second sneak peek of the video on her website. The sneaks don’t offer much, but it does look like the video is going to be big and action packed. We also get the official release of the “What the Hell” single by Avril Lavigne. The song came out a few weeks ago, now you can get the single on CD if you want. Also in singles is Diddy-Dirty Money’s single “Coming Home.” This is the band Diddy formed with two women Dawn Richard (formerly of Danity Kane the group Diddy created on Making the Band) and Kalenna.
The big release in albums this week is Now That’s What I Call Music! 37. This is the newest compilation album put out by Capitol Records. For those not familiar with them, these albums take 15-20 of the hottest songs of the year and put them on one album. Think of it as a ‘greatest hits’ of the last six months kind of thing. They are wildly popular. Now That’s What I Call Music! 37 follows in the footsteps of its predecessors. It features Eminen’s hit song “Love the Way You Lie,” Bruno Mars’ smash hit “Just the Way You Are,” Katy Perry’s “Firework,” Taylor Swift’s “Mine,” and Pink’s “Raise Your Glass.” Among others Rihanna, Ke$ha, Chris Brown, Willow Smith, Trey Songz and Pitbull all have songs on this one. There are a total of 20 tracks including “Waiting Outside The Lines” from Greyson Chance who is the kid that was discovered on YouTube doing a great version of a Lady Gaga song and that Ellen helped get signed. If you love pop music and want all the hottest songs from the last 6 months or so, this is the album for you.
Don’t laugh when I mention this one. Yanni has a new record Truth of Touch out. We may laugh, but it is currently #1 in Amazon’s New Age category, #2 in their Classic Rock category and #27 in the Pop category. I won’t pretend to know much about Yanni other than it appears he has gotten a haircut since I last saw a picture of him and some people clearly love him. If you are a Yanni fan, this one seems to be getting pretty positive reviews so check it out.
There are two other new releases worth mentioning. First up we have the new record form the Wailin’ Jennys, Bright Morning Stars. This group is made up of three talented women who play a variety of instruments. Their music is traditional folk meets modem country with a dash of the Dixie Chicks thrown in. They harmonize well and have some great sounding songs. On the total opposite end of the spectrum we have the new Motorhead called The World is Yours. After some health scares for Motorhead leader Lemmy the band hit the studio, cranked up the amps and dropped this rock N’ roll bombshell. It is hard driving, intense and loud just like Motorhead fans would want. The bottom line is if you like Motorhead, this one will make you happy. If you have never been into them, this isn’t a bad place to start.
That’s about it for this week. Happy listening.
