Al and Tipper Gore Announce Separation
The couple disclosed the news in a brief email to friends and supporters about the split. Al Gore, 61, and Tipper Gore, 62, gave no hint of whatever hidden turmoil might have caused their decision to break up.The email stated, “We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate. This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration.”
Al Gore and Tipper have four grown children together. Friends and family are shocked and surprised at the news today. Some friends say they were a private couple and never knew the marriage was in any danger of divorce.
Al Gore was vice president to Bill Clinton from 1992 to 2000. His steady marriage was a sharp contrast to a president whose sexual affair with a White House intern led to a national scandal and impeachment. After that he spent his time spreading environmental awareness by producing and releasing the movie ‘An Inconvenient Truth.’
